- January 19, 2005 --- Fund for Democracy
UUARC would like to inform the generous contributors to the Fund for Democracy, that, in its brief existence, the Fund enabled us to collect $502,776 and forward $473,700 to Ukraine for direct support of the peaceful protesters on the Maidan and election observers on December 26th, the final Election Day. The Orange Revolution pulled at our heart strings and we answered by opening our wallets. Huge quantities of sleeping bags, blankets, sweaters, socks, boots, warm underwear and cold remedies were provided for the stalwart defenders of the right of democracy. Funds were also earmarked to support the international election observers who assured the transparency of the election, and defended the democratic process. Donations continue to come in, which, along with the balance in the Fund at the end of December, will be forwarded to maintain and nurture democracy in Ukraine, as needed.
